Taking Action

It has now been three weeks since FadeIn's Hollywood Pitchfest concluded.

I have only received one request for my work (Wolperg requested Personal Demons through FadeIn on August 9th).

I have received any follow-up from FadeIn or Wolperg.

And I do not trust FadeIn (for any number of reasons) to check-in with Wolperg routinely in an effort to see if they'd read the script and what their response is to it, or to get back to me and inform me that they would like to move forward with representing me or getting the script produced.

Thus, this weekend I am going to begin reaching out to the VIPs I pitched to at Pitchfest myself.

This is my cover / query letter:

"Dear (insert name of VIP here),

Greetings!

A few weeks ago, I pitched to you (on Zoom via the FadeIn Hollywood PitchFest) my supernatural teen horror script Personal Demons.

You expressed interest in reading it, but FadeIn has not sent me a request for the script.

Would it be alright if I sent the script along as an attachment?

Please advise at your earliest convenience.

Thank you again for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Erik D. Harshman"

While I admit that this is not the best way to proceed (query letters have only brought me the most minimal of responses in the past), this is the only way I can see going forward where I can make use of opportunities afforded to me (and gauge and cultivate the interest shown to me) during Pitchfest.

In all reality: I gotta do something.

I need to be pro-active and I am sick of sitting around and waiting for my career as a writer to just happen (something I've never really done... or been content with the prospect of doing).

And if nothing works out, then I am merely back where I started.

The worst that can happen is that I burn some bridges along the way by coloring outside the lines and reaching to VIPs without FadeIn as a mediator... The VIPs will either be angered by this tactic, and consider it invasive, or they will appreciate it and be angered at FadeIn for not properly connecting us (the VIPs and myself).

Either way I have to try or I will never know.

Here goes nothing.
