Just got the word from Magic of Horror Festival.
Rejected!
Here are their comments and the scorecard they attached.
"Greetings Erik,
Thank you for submitting your screenplay PERSONAL DEMONS to the Magic of
Horror festival. While your script did not pass the selection judging round for this
year’s contest, we wanted to extend our appreciation that you
shared it with us.
Attached you will
find the scorecard from a member of the jury in the initial judging
round. Our jurors are instructed to be very critical with their
feedback, as we feel that this is important to the filmmakers and
writers who submit their work to us. We hope that you will find it
helpful.
I'll just say this about my rejection: First, you know the old saying about opinions... they are like a very undesirable part of the human body... everyone has one, and they all stink. Second, this festival has been around for 7 years, but looking at their social media websites, it doesn't look like anything terribly special or prestigious. I've been rejected (and won!) better festivals than this. No big loss. Third, I like how they tell me that their judges are instructed to be "very critical" with their feedback. I guess that means they need to be especially harsh gatekeepers? I don't know. Who cares? It's just another festival (there are millions). And, finally, I love the line "We hope that you will find it helpful"... What should I find helpful... one person's singular opinion? I don't know who this person is. I also don't know their qualifications... and given what I've seen or read from this festival's social media sites, I don't think they're an industry expert or professional, so...
Sincerely,
The Staff of the Magic of Horror Festival

Ah well.
Moving on.
