Caffeine is such a wonderful motivator.
I remember, in summer of 2011, I was house/dog sitting for my Mom.
I came back to my apartment one day to check my mail and make sure all was well at the homestead. I cranked up my A.C., chugged a sugar free Red Bull and sat down at my laptop and cranked out the short story "Unimportant", which would later be published in the April 2013 issue of Dark Moon Digest.
I was reading Brett Easton Ellis' The Informers at the time and was heavily inspired by literature about addicts and their ennui in life (I'd also read Hubert Selby, Jr.'s Requiem For A Dream that summer... reminded me a lot of Burroughs' Junky).
Anyhow, despite not wanting to put too many chemicals (or caffeine or sugar) into my body, I do love the boost it gives you.
Therefore, I always try to keep a blueberry Red Bull in the 'fridge.
Bad for me? Sure. But once in a while won't kill me.
I also keep on hand that Focus Factor stuff from Costco.
And I swindled a bottle of NeuroXR (the supplement that they based the pill from Limitless on), so I have that to consume if necessary (although now everyone has some sort of "brain pill" that encourages focus and memory... like Cognium).
I remember reading in the Faber & Faber book, Lynch on Lynch, that David Lynch hung out at Johnny Rockets and ate sundaes while writing and working on Eraserhead. Apparently, he uses sugar as a great creative stimulant and motivator.
I'd like to throw this picture from my friend Molly Federline (no, no relation to K-Fed... or Fed-Ex...). Molly's a make-up FX artist from New Orleans who I met in college down in New Mexico about 18 years ago... I've since visited her in Monessen, PA. where she was attending Tom Savini's school for make-up FX. I also visited her in L.A. about ten years ago when she was jump starting her career.
