Austin Film Festival Rejection

 Just got this email...

No big loss, IMO.

I've still got a slew of other accolades, and more to come, I'm sure.

Dear Erik D. Harshman,

Thank you for entering your work Personal Demons into the 2023 Austin Film Festival Screenplay Competition. We received many script submissions this year across all categories that demonstrated some incredible storytelling. It was extremely challenging to determine which scripts would progress to the Second Round. Unfortunately, your script did not advance in the Drama Feature category and Horror Award.

Please know how much Austin Film Festival respects your writing process – the journey from a blank page to a fully realized world and the courage that comes with sharing your work. Each script was given careful consideration, evaluated in its entirety, and reviewed at least twice by different readers. However, judging art is a complicated process, one that is by nature, subjective.

Do not let this discourage you. Your writing talent and the measure of your script’s success are not determined solely by the outcome of one writing competition. This is an industry that demands persistence. Austin Film Festival is just one stop in your journey as a writer toward that final destination. You are the architect and custodian of your work so, if writing is your passion, please continue to pursue and share it.

If previously opted-in, your Reader Comments, a full set of notes of your reader’s initial thoughts, will be provided via e-mail in November. Austin Film Festival and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors and we hope we can continue to be a resource for you in the future.

Sincerely,

Alyssa Alvarado
