Pitchfest delayed... again.

Just got this email from FadeIn Magazine.

Wish I could say I was surprised, but I saw this coming all along.

And, again, while I get that WGA would see PitchFest as scabbing, I also know that, only when Hollywood is desperate, will they let someone new into their boy's club (you know, without nepotism or any kind of favoritism/elitism being a factor).

And since FadeIn has me by the throat and I cannot get a refund for my PitchFest deposit (I actually already paid the $500 for 15 pitches), I am forced to play the waiting game... which may wind up being next summer.

Ah well.

If it is, at least I'll be all paid up.

I can only hope that, if it is delayed another year, that it won't directly conflict with any other plans I may have.

HPF 27 UPDATE

Hi *[FNAME]*,Heather here from the Hollywood Pitch Festival. As the current event date is just a few weeks away, we want to give you an update regarding HPF 27...Since our last writing, there has been no resolution to the ongoing WGA Strike. That doesn't mean the two sides won't reach an agreement later this month. But it does mean there will not be enough time allotted, even if they were to come to terms in the next fourteen days, for those attendees coming from out of town to (re)arrange their travel plans. In addition, as the organizers, we would require at least four-to-six weeks to make all the necessary preparations the event requires. With no new contract in place, we must continue to stand in solidarity with the WGA and push the date of HPF 27 one more time. That said, we want you to know we have been corresponding with the WGA behind-the-scenes to see if there was any scenario where we could hold a "part one" to the event that invited only non-signatory companies for you to meet with (even if only virtually). Thus far, they have brought up reasonable concerns with this type of hybrid concept, as if even one signatory producer somehow got in it would be a detriment to all...From the Writers Guild of America: "The Guild does not have the authority to discipline non-members for strikebreaking or scab writing. However, the Guild can and will bar that writer from future Guild membership... Specifically, the Guild’s concern would be that there may be producers in attendance, who we consider to be representatives of struck companies, which make this particularly fraught." With all this in mind, we have decided to move HPF 27 to a new date TBA (to be announced) once the strike has concluded and the new agreement has been ratified. We thank you, as does the WGA, for your continued patience and solidarity. We will be back in touch as soon as a deal between the AMPTP and the WGA has been reached.Until then, please feel free to reach out with any questions or to make sure companies you are anxious to meet with are indeed on our updated invite list. And follow us on all of our social media platforms for A-list filmmaker tips, articles and the latest HPF updates. If you simply want to move your registration to August 2024, simply email us back and we will accommodate you.Thank you, kindly.HeatherHPF Coordinator
