my rebuttal

Here is my rebuttal to PJ McNeil's criticism of my script:

Now, I should take to heart what he says, and he says that I should since multiple people have told me that this script needs work, but here is my rebuttal:

  • He asks who this script is for? Well, anyone who's into strange kicks... And let's face it, that's about 2/3 of the world. If not, porn wouldn't be a multi-billion dollar a year industry, we wouldn't have the AVN Awards and internet porn wouldn't be so huge (also strippers wouldn't make about a million dollars a night). I get the sense that he's an older guy (and I know for a fact that he has a kid, specifically a daughter), so I guess he's not the target audience for this material (the vaguely sheltered suburban parent); this film is more for today's youth, as not only does it appeal to their vulgar aesthetic, but it acts as a cautionary tale to their hedonistic and narcissistic behavior. That last point might be lost on the film's youthful audience, but to those who are cognizant enough to see it, I think they'll appreciate it.
  • He says that the other films I mentioned have more going on in them than just porn. I would like to think Pillow Queen does as well. There's the Faustian myth present (which is alluded to in one of the classroom scenes, then realized when Anna signs the shady porn contract in the Valley). There's the commentary on absentee parents and how their children (no matter how affluent and well-cared for) will undoubtedly go down undesirable paths. There's the commentary on societal lines and how the bourgeoisie almost always seeks pleasure and thrills from the lower class and the gutter. Despite how refined and attuned they feel their palate is, they nearly always seek base-level fulfillment and want it exclusively from someone so undeniably attractive, yet socioeconomically "trashy" or below them. And, of course, there's the commentary on today's youth which I expounded on above.
  • I will take into consideration what he says. Perhaps I need to layer in a bit more character evolution and focus a bit less on porn (though I thought I struck a nice equilibrium between the two). Though the whole damn point of the script is porn and how it has desensitized and misled our youth into thinking that it is either: a.) reality, b.) not harmless or c.) a means to power, fame and fortune. Anna is merely an example and victim of this train of thought. But, again, here I am justifying my viewpoint and rejecting his criticism.
