Pitchfest Day Two Report

Yes, I am posting this late (it happened this past Monday, August 1st).

But here is the report:

Company: Culture Creative (Paul Weitzman)

Time: 2:10-2:15pm

How did it go?:

Our meeting was at 4:10pm, but Screen Gems called me first (which is something I was concerned about with these two meetings being so close together). They messaged me during my Screen Gems call (see the notes on my Screen Gems meeting) and said,

“missed you. Can we do our call at 2:55?”

I replied, “Absolutely! I apologize, Screen Gems called me early...”:

They replied, “see you soon”

When we finally got on, Mr. Weitzman had a Lakers jersey hanging on the wall behind him. He seemed like he was in an office next to a window.

Regardless, he said that we had missed each other a few times, but then said, “talk to me!”

I gave my pitch and ended with the, “I don’t mean to brag, but it’s [my screenplay] been winning awards at film fests and screenplay competitions”.

He asked me to give him a few of the awards it’s won and I went down my list.

He asked what I taught. I told him English, everything from literary analysis to composition.

He said that he liked the idea of “A Dirty Dozen group of kids in a horror movie,” something to that effect.

He said he didn’t get a sense of what the story beats were, but that he wanted to read it.

Also, Sunday night I instinctively sent a Deadpool GIF (of Deadpool waving) to Screen Gems and Culture Creative in response to them sending me the waving emoji (which every company sent me when establishing first contact). He then said,

“Oh and your Deadpool character!” He went off camera for a second and brought back a Deadpool action figure, “I’m a fan too!”

He then put his email in the chat and then told me (and this was such a nice compliment) that I was “worth the wait!”

I just sent him the script.

Meeting lasted 4 mins. 30 seconds (5:10-5:15pm)

Screen Gems

This meeting was a bit of a blur, as I was discombobulated from my meetings being in reverse order and just generally having Monday Brain.

However, the meeting was with a delightful lady named Gisele Johnson.

She said my pitch sounded "like a fun concept" and she requested to read my script and put her email in the chat.

Sent it to her directly afterwards.
