I call it "work", the preparation I'm doing for PitchFest, but in truth I don't mind any of this a bit. In fact, I haven't had so much fun (or felt such purpose) in years.
I truly believe that this is what I was cut out to do.
I've been reading Jim Henson's biography all semester (that shows how little time I have to myself, a 490 page book should have taken me a week or so) and it talks about how he was constantly working and how he didn't mind it at all because he loved his work and it never felt strenuous or tasking to him. I feel the same way about writing. Now, if only I could find someone willing to pay me to do it for a living.
Also, I bought a 8GB SanDisk (though I prefer Kingston) flashdrive at Best Buy for $5 (for use specifically at PitchFest, as the director/founder of PitchFest suggested that it would be a good idea to have all my scripts and materials digitally to impart on an agent or executive who didn't want to keep track of a bunch of scattered hard copies).
Finally, I have my friend Tim Scott (a PhotoShop master if there ever were one) working on the mock poster for my one-sheet for the horror script I plan to pitch.
And I am hard at work re-reading and revising the 2nd script I plan to pitch at PitchFest (Flatdog). I haven't read it since I wrote it in 2008. It's still good and impresses, but there was a lot of fat to cut. I'm glad 7 years of removed objectivity shows me that. At any rate, it might still need work after my polish, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
