Well, today has just been a kick in the teeth (in terms of my literary submissions).
First, neither of my scripts (Dweller or Momo) were chosen for Shriekfest.
That was a bit disconcerting, but not unsurprising.
I don't do well with festivals.
I've nearly always just been an "Honorable Mention" or gotten "your script almost made it!"
Don't know what it is... politics (someone else is a darling of the festival)... Or the competition is fierce (am I going up against guys like Scott Kosar in these things?)... Or if my writing is just absolute garbage... I have no idea... Time will tell.
Then, I get an e-mail from a magazine I submitted to yesterday, telling me:
"Thank you for your interest in --------- Magazine. Unfortunately,
"Cleanliness of Maggots", "Homeless", and "Finders Keepers" have been
auto-rejected, as we do not consider simultaneous submissions. If you
would like to resubmit your best piece, I'll be happy to forward it to a
submissions editor."
Yeeeeeeeesh!
So... I guess I resubmit my best work... And power through it...
I just don't understand why (in writing) the actual writing part is incredibly easy (for me anyway) and the business side of it (submitting, getting an agent, getting published/producer) is such a kick in the teeth.
