So, last night I got together at Sandrina's (a nice little late night restaurant and bar that my buddy David Minniahn and I frequent) with my buddy David Minnihan (my brother in film) for his birthday and I got together with my writing partner for a bit of workshop.
We worked out writing assignments for the first part of our sitcom pilot.
We each have our goals.
I have constructed the title page (baby steps) and I have begun writing the first page. Really, all I have to do is put together the opener (a monologue of sorts) that begins the show before the credits.
At first I was apprehensive about doing a sitcom (I don't think my writing is funny... And the things I find funny I don't necessarily think other people do). But I am slowly gaining confidence that this could work.
Furthermore, I think all the Vaudevillian lessons I learned from hopelessly loving Elvira, Mistress of the Dark has paid off in dividends, as my comedic edge will hinge mostly on set-up and punchline in addition to organic character idiosyncrasies.
I am psyched for this project; think it might just work.
