So... I was going to write a blog about my reservations about going to Great American Pitchfest (GAPF) and how their website always looked a bit clunky to me and it didn't seem like they got the most high-profile guests (even though they've had Roger Corman and Shane Black in years past) and how I was going to shirk them in favor of Fade In's Hollywood Pitchfest.
I was also going to say that I couldn't really afford Hollywood Pitchfest this year, but that it was later in the summer (late July) and that it was higher-profile, more glossy, bigger studios and had a better track list of recent sales to big studios.
But then I read a ton of blogs, web sites and online articles rating the top pitchfests and GAPF and Fade In's Hollwood pitchfest were rated among the top 4-5.
The other 4-5 don't seem to be in existence anymore.
They have endured and are among the top reviewed.
So, I think my decision is made:
Attend GAPF this year. It is relatively cheap (will cost me a little over a grand) and will give me much needed experience, feedback and networking opportunities.
If anything happens, cool.
If not, meditate on what I've learned and use it the following summer (after I save up my money during the school year) when I head to Fade In's Hollyoowd Pitchfest for the "big leagues" (not that GAPF is the small leagues... but perhaps not as big).
If nothing else, if I choose to go to no pitchfests this year
and I just stay home, rejuvenate & recover financially, then I must
spend the majority of the summer writing, submitting my work to lit.
agents & online film fests & script competitions and just
generally making whatever progress I can while sitting in front of my
laptop.
