The eBay seller refunded my payment in full (think they're getting refunded by UPS... who is responsible for packaging the item improperly and playing kickball with the box).

Anyhow, they say UPS might stop by to collect the broken item and the damaged packaging as part of their "investigation"... Hope they don't... it was only a $50 claim, anyhow...
